We are very excited to welcome our new Chair, Claire Mallinson who brings to the Sunrise Project Board strong strategic and campaigning expertise, business acumen and governance experience.
Claire has over three decades of senior leadership experience with non-government organisations, both in Australia and internationally, operating in the environment, human rights, disability and health research areas. She brings a deep commitment to climate and social justice, a global perspective, and a depth of leadership and governance experience that will be invaluable to help steer The Sunrise Project through the coming years.
Most recently, Claire was CEO of Amnesty International Australia (2007-2019) and was part of Amnesty’s International’s Global Leadership Team for ten years. During that time she oversaw a significant growth in support for Amnesty’s work in Australia and delivered major human rights wins in Australia, Asia Pacific and globally. She built, led and developed key partnerships including with Indigenous communities and elders and civil society leaders.
Claire has a strong interest and depth of experience in transformational change and organisational development. She was part of the leadership team that successfully achieved the world’s biggest not-for-profit merger to create Cancer Research UK which is currently the UK’s largest non-government organisation, with an annual turnover of $1.2 billion.
Claire is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Chief Executive Women, and Women on Boards and has strong relationships across both business and community sectors in Australia and globally.
A huge thank you to Mark Wakeham, our Inaugural Board Chair and long-standing Board member who resigned from the Board last November after taking up a new role with the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
We look forward to working with Claire whose impressive skillset will help drive The Sunrise Project and assist us to achieve our vision of using the power of social movements to tackle the climate crisis.
